Keys for Newcomers, an innovative pilot program, offers newcomers* to Canada accessible music education by removing financial and language barriers.
Piano Students
Students aged 5 to 18 may apply for a grant to cover the costs of piano lessons, music books, and loaner instruments. Classes are offered in group formats or one-on-one, and in student’s native language.
Experienced Piano Teachers
Teachers interested in establishing their own studios are offered rent free studio space, a piano or keyboard for their home (subject to availability), and seminars introducing them to the Canadian system of music education. This program also includes a same-language student referral program.
Currently our pilot project is offered to newcomers from Ukraine. The program is expected to expand its reach to other immigrant communities in future years.
*A newcomer is defined as a person residing in Canada for three years or less.
