Music is a universal language that bridges gaps and builds community. For newcomers to Calgary, it’s more than that—it’s a lifeline, a way to connect with their heritage while finding belonging in a new home.
In just one year, Keys for Newcomers has made an incredible impact, some of which includes:
- Provided weekly lessons and music books for 33 Ukrainian newcomer students;
- Loaned 18 keyboards to teachers and students, ensuring everyone can learn and teach at home;
- Reconnected eight Ukrainian music teachers with their vocation—restoring their financial stability, sense of pride, and purpose.
We can do even more, but we can’t do it alone. We need your help.
In 2025, we want to:
- Double our impact, making the program available to 60 Ukrainian newcomer students;
- Continue empowering teachers through training, mentorship, and business support;
- Help teachers gain certification from the Royal Conservatory of Music, opening doors to new opportunities.
We’re looking to you for support to sustain Keys for Newcomers into 2025 and beyond by sponsoring a student at one of six levels, creating opportunities for them to be inspired by the piano and fostering a love for piano music.
