Privacy

Privacy and Confidentiality Policy

Honens is committed to protecting the privacy of its donors, volunteers, employees, and other stakeholders. To support this commitment, Honens has adopted the Canadian Centre of Philanthropy’s Code of Fundraising Ethics and the Bill of Donors rights. Honens is dedicated to being both transparent and accountable in dealing with the information it receives. All personal information that is collected is carefully protected, and its use is subject to consent.

Personal Information Defined

Personal information is any information that can be used to distinguish, identify or contact a specific individual. This information may include an individual’s opinions or beliefs, as well as facts about or related to the individual. Exceptions are business contact information and certain publicly available information such as names, addresses and telephone numbers as published in telephone directories or on the Internet.

Privacy Practices

Personal information gathered by Honens is kept in confidence. Honens personnel are authorized to access personal information based only on their need to deal with the information for reasons for which it was obtained. Safeguards are in place to ensure that the information is not disclosed or shared more widely than is necessary to achieve the purpose for which it was gathered. Honens also takes measures to ensure the integrity of personal information is maintained, and to prevent it from being lost or destroyed.

IP addresses may be logged to track a user’s session. An IP address is the unique numerical identity of your computer. When we “log” an IP address, it means that our Web site associates a visit or series of visits to that unique numerical identity. Honens also uses cookies in order to assist in aggregate statistical analysis and sometimes provide site customization based on anonymous session tracking. In other words, Honens uses cookies to determine trends for users as a whole, but not as means to learn about your individual identity. Cookies, by themselves, cannot be used to determine the actual identity of users. On their own, they can be used to identify a computer, but not who is using that computer. Because of this, if Honens customizes the site based on cookies, we won’t know who you are unless you tell us.

Honens collects the visitor’s domain name, referral data, as well as browser and platform type. We also count, track, and aggregate the visitor’s activity into our analysis of general traffic flows at our sites. When and if Honens does present aggregated information to outside companies, no one would be able to identify you or contact you.

Honens will never share personal information with any third party without consent. However, information may be transferred to another organization if there is a merger between Honens and an organization charged with continuing its services. Access to personal information is limited to our employees, contractors and agents with a need to access such information for the purposes set forth in this privacy policy. We will not use personal information other than as set forth above without consent.

Honens reserves the right to change, add, or remove portions from this privacy policy at any time. However, if any change involves a plan to use personal information in a way that differs from this privacy policy, Honens will first obtain consent.

Honens routinely offers individuals the opportunity to opt not to have their information shared for purposes beyond which it was explicitly collected.

Confidentiality Practices

Employees and volunteers may in their work become privy to information that is confidential.

Disclosure of any such confidential information to an unauthorized person may be grounds for disciplinary action or dismissal.

Such confidential information includes, but is not limited to compensation data, financial statements, information about donors and sponsors, marketing strategies, artistic programming, and pending projects and proposals.
